How To Measure For Curtains

At LoveThoseCurtains all of our readymade curtains are sold in pairs unless stated. The actual size of the curtain refers to each individual curtain. For example a pair of 46"x54" curtains will contain two curtains both 46" width x 54" finished drop.

Measuring the Width of Your Window For Curtains

When measuring for curtains you should measure the actual track or pole not the window width, as you are dressing the pole or track and not just the window , This will ensure the  correct fitting of your curtains.

If you are yet to buy your track or pole, please allow 5 - 6" (12 -15cm) above your window and allow 5 - 6" (12 - 15cm) either side of your window. This will allow your curtains to be drawn back from your window and will allow more light into your room.

To give you the recommended fitting for your curtains, we suggest the combined width of your curtains should be as close to double the size of your pole or track as possible.

Measuring the Length of Your Curtains

First, decide where you would like the length of your curtains to finish.

• To the window sill We suggest that curtains finish 1/2"(1.5cm) above the window sill.
• Below the sill We recommend they finish 6"(15cm) below.
• To the floor We recommendthat your curtains finish. 1/2" (1.5cm) above the floor.

Please Note:

• Eyelet curtains please allow 1 ½ extra on your drop as the curtains sit proud above the pole.
• Pencil pleat curtains measure from the eye at the bottom of the curtain ring
• Tab top curtains measure from the top of the pole.

Width

While our curtains are sold in pairs, the sizes refer to each individual curtain. So if you purchase 46" X 54" curtains you will receive two curtains 46" X 54" in size, this allows for a full and luxurious fitting for the curtains.

First of all, measure the width of your curtain track or pole. If you have yet to fit your pole or track please bear in mind that the track or pole should ideally be positioned 6" (15cm) above the window and extend 6" (15cm) either side of the window (excluding finials).

We would recommend you use the following as a guideline which will result in a "full" look to the curtains:

As a minimum the total width of both curtains should be one and a half times as wide as the track or pole (excluding finials).

Length

Before measuring the length, decide whether you want your curtains to fit to the sill, below the sill or to the floor.

We suggest that:

• Sill length curtains finish 1/2" (1.5cm) above the sill.
• Curtains that fall below the sill finish 6" (15cm) below.
• Floor length curtains finish 1/2" (1.5cm) from the floor.

Tip: use a metal tape measure so that your measurements will be as accurate as possible.

Measuring Curtain Length for Poles

• Pencil pleat curtains: measure from the eye - the small metal ring at the bottom of each curtain ring. This will prevent the pole or rings from being obscured by the curtain.
• Tab top curtains: measure from the very top of the pole.

Measuring Curtain Length for Tracks

Measure from the top of the track.
